Geography

Middle Button Island National Park is located in the Andaman district of the state of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Total area of the park is 0.44 Km2.

The island has an oceanic climate moderated by the surrounding sea. The island receives much rain during the southwesterly monsoon season between June and October.

Long Island is the nearest town to this national park, which is situated towards the southern side of Port Blair.

Most of the park area is covered with deciduous forest. The Middle Button Island National Park is surrounded by sandy beaches and sea water with clear visibility.

The climatic condition at Middle Button National Park is mild. This area has heavy precipitation as it is situated in the heart of the tropical zone. The monsoon season starts in the month of June and lasts till October.

Artocarpus gomeziana, Artocarpus chaplasha, Aprosa villosula, Caryota mitis, Dinochloa andamanica, Salmalia insignis, Calophyllum soulattri, Calamus palustris, Dipterocarpus grandiflorus, Hopea odorata, Sideroxylon sp., Parishia insignis, Baccaurea sapida, Dipterocarpus pilosus, Salmalia insignis, Canarium manii, Endospermum chinensis etc.

Dominant fauna

Spotted deer, Fruit Bat, White-Bellied Sea Eagle, Sooty Tern, Monitor lizards, Dugongs, Dolphins, Sea turtles, Blue whale, Andaman Serpeant Eagle, Water monitor etc. Many species of fishes and corals are also found. Many species of birds are also found.

Middle Button Island National Park is open throughout the year. The best time of the year to visit the Middle Button Island National Park is between the months of January to March.

There are a number of government and privately operated vehicles that go to Middle Button Island National Park at frequent intervals. The nearest town is Long Island town. The park lies 64 km to the south east of Long Island Town.

Accommodations

Accommodation is not available within the Park, but visitors may organize packages to sleep on board vessels, or may camp with prior permission from the park authorities. Camping facilities are available for the tourists with prior permission from Divisional Forest Officer.
