Indravati was declared as a National park in the year of 1981. Total area of the park is about 2799.08 Km2. The park derives its name from the Indravati River, which flows along the northern boundary of the park. The park has densely forested lands and the open spaces of the park are shielded with creepers and scrub. Tropical flowers in vibrant color are also found growing in the park.
National park is an area which is strictly reserved for the betterment of the wildlife & biodiversity, and where activities like developmental, forestry, poaching, hunting and grazing on cultivation are not permitted. Their boundaries are well marked and circumscribed.

Indravati National Park

Indravati National Park is a beautiful place, located in the Bijapur district of the state of Chhattisgarh. Indravati National Park is also known as Kutru National Park.

The park derives its name from the Indravati River, which flows along the northern boundary of the park. Indravati National Park is the finest and most famous Wildlife Park and Tiger reserve of Chhattisgarh.

Indravati was declared as a National park in the year of 1981. Total area of the park is about 2799.08 Km2 (1258.37 Km2 core area and 1540.71 Km2 buffer area). In the year of 1983, Indravati National park was declared a Tiger reserve under the Project Tiger of India.

The Park is famous for its unique and diverse wildlife and bird species including some of the most endangered species such as Wild Buffalos and Hill Mynas.

A series of beautiful hill ranges with lush green vegetation and unique wildlife and avifauna makes this national park a paradise for the nature lovers.

Bird sounds are also heard in the park and the species like gulls, terns, serpent crested eagles, ospreys, wood pigeons etc. can be spotted in the open areas.

Geography

The topography of the Park mainly comprises of undulating hilly terrain with altitude ranging between 177 to 599 m above the sea level.

The park has densely forested lands and the open spaces of the park are shielded with creepers and scrub. Tropical flowers in vibrant color are also found growing in the park.

The forest type can be described as southern dry mixed deciduous forests and southern moist mixed deciduous forests.

Sal, Teak, Bamboo, Lendia, Salai, Mahua, Tendu, Semal, Haldu, Ber, Jamun, Dhaora, Dhoban, Siras, Bija, Char, Karra, Kullu, Shisham, Semal, Arjun, Bel, Rohan, Bahera, Mundi, Palas Etc.

Dominant fauna

Mammals – Tiger, Wild buffalo, Chital, Barking Deer, Nilgai, Gaur, Barasingha, Leopard, Sambar, Chausingha, Sloth Bear, Dhole, Striped Hyena, Wild Boar, Flying Squirrel, Porcupine, Pangolins, Monkey, Langurs etc.

Reptiles –  Crocodile, Monitor Lizard, Indian Chameleon, Common Krait, Indian Rock Python, Cobra, Russell’s viper etc.

The best time of the year to visit the Indravati National Park is during 15th December to 15 June.

How to Reach

By Air – Nearest airport is Raipur airport, about 500 Km from the Indravati National Park. Raipur airport is well connected by rail and road network to Indravati National Park.

By Rail – Nearest railway station is Jagdalpur railway station, about 170 Km from the Indravati National Park. Jagdalpur railway station is well connected by road to Indravati National Park.

By Road – The Park is well connected to Major Cities and Places by road network. There are a number of government and privately operated vehicles that go to the National Park at frequent intervals.
