The Park is surrounded by Eravikulam National Park, Pambadum Shola National Park, Chinnar Wildlife sanctuary, Mathikettan Shola National Park. It is supervised by Kerala Wildlife and Forest department and Munnar Wildlife Division, along with other National Parks and Sanctuary like Erevikulam National Park, Mathikettan Shola National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Pambadum Shola National Park and the Kurinjimala Sanctuary……………
Total area of the park is about 7.5 Km2. It was declared as a National Park in the year of 2003. The park provides safe and comfortable habitat to the wild species of flora and fauna. The rich wildlife includes Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Indian Bison, Nilgiri tahr, Gaur, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Giant Grizzled Squirrel, Hanuman Langur, Sloth Bear, Flying Squirrels etc.
National park is an area which is strictly reserved for the betterment of the wildlife & biodiversity, and where activities like developmental, forestry, poaching, hunting and grazing on cultivation are not permitted. Their boundaries are well marked and circumscribed.

Anamudi Shola National Park is a beautiful place, located along the Western Ghats in the Idukki district of the state of Kerala.

Anamudi Shola National Park is a part of Annamalai sub-cluster and has been nominated for World Heritage site status under UNESCO’s World heritage Programme. It was declared as a National Park in the year of 2003. Total area of the park is about 7.5 Km2.

Anamudi Shola National Park consists of three shola reserve forests (Idivara Shola Reserve, Pullardi Shola Reserve and Mannavan Shola Reserve).

Anamudi Shola National Park is surrounded by Eravikulam National Park, Pambadum Shola National Park, Chinnar Wildlife sanctuary, Mathikettan Shola National Park.

Geography

Anamudi Shola National Park is located along the Western Ghats in the Idukki district of the state of Kerala.

Elevation ranges from 2,152 meters – 2,305 meters

Latitude – 10º05’N – 10º20’N and Longitude – 77º0’E – 77º10’E

The Average annual rainfall range between 2000 to 2500 mm.

Dominant flora

The forest is covered with West coast tropical evergreen, Southern Hilltop Tropical Vegetation found at higher altitudes. The park has one of the largest shola forest ecosystem in the country with unique biodiversity and climate. 62 Species of trees, 174 species of herbs and shrubs, and 39 species of climbers are spotted from here.

Dominant fauna

Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Indian Bison, Nilgiri tahr, Gaur, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Giant Grizzled Squirrel, Hanuman Langur, Sloth Bear, Flying Squirrels, jungle cat, wild boar, Leopards, Wolves, Wild Dogs, Civet Cats etc.

About 100 species of butterflies, about 232 species of moths, about 76 species of birds and many species of reptiles are also found in the park.

The best time of the year to visit the Anamudi Shola National Park is between the months of October to March.

How to Reach

By Air – Nearest airport is Coimbatore airport, about 150 Km from the Anamudi Shola National Park. The other nearest airport is Kochi International Airport which is located about 160 km from the park.  These airport are well connected by road to Anamudi Shola National Park.

By Rail – Nearest railway station is Pollachi railway station, about 100 Km from the Anamudi Shola National Park. The other nearest railway station is Aluva Railway Station which is located about 150 km from the park. These railway stations are well connected by road to Anamudi Shola National Park.

By Road – Anamudi Shola National Park is well connected to Major Cities and Places by road network. There are a number of government and privately operated vehicles that go to Anamudi Shola National Park at frequent intervals.  Nearest bus stand is Munnar bus stand.
